Baby It's Cooold Outside! ... And Inside

Just in the past day or two it has suddenly gotten very chilly around here. When Jeff took the car to work this morning, there was ice on the windshield. Our squash plant has, I think, finally stopped producing (check out what I did with the too-large squash we harvested!) and there is a perpetual cloud cover in the sky. It's around this time of year that I re-realize a key difference between myself and many other people. Normal people would turn up their thermostat enough to remain at least partially comfortable. I have been shivering all day, wrapping up in blankets and making sure the kids are dressed warmly, and we haven't even left the house. All to save a buck or two on the power bill. Yes, eventually I will break down and turn on the heat, but my silly tightwad tendencies are so forceful these days!

I think it's time to start making more soups, chilis, and hearty tummy-warming casseroles!

you are not alone, mark and I, expecially me, are dreading this winter. our heater is gas, and we turned off the gas when we bought the house. we lived through last winter with no gas... brrrrr it was so cold. and now we will do so again. atleast we save a hundred bucks or so each month, and we buy space heaters.

I don't miss Idaho! Granted, it does get a little chilly here but we can get by just turning the heater on for 1/2 hour in the morning and be comfortable.
Good luck staying warm!

I wish Mark would let me get the house a little chillier... He would stay at 75 all winter if I let him! I prefer 70 in the summer, and 65 in the winter. Maybe I am just used to frugal heating, thanks to mom. But his mom doesn't turn on the heat until mid November practically, so he grew up freezing I guess... And hey, tightwad is a good thing! Half of the country, the smart half anyway, is doing the exact same thing nowadays. :-)

I was upstairs last night rocking the baby to sleep with the windows open wide, the fan on high and I was still roasting. It has been in the 80s! Unseasonably warm temps out here.

Oohh, it's really cold here too! And our heater isn't working! I'm with you on soups and stews now. Saturday I made a meatball stew, and it was really good.

Oh my! How crazy that it is so cold there already! We are still wearing shorts.

But I do love the change...seeing all the new things that Winter will bring!
