Computer Stuff

I really haven't been wanting to write this post, because this is something I don't want to even think about, let alone write about.

About a week ago our computer crashed. Completely died. We think it was a virus that got through and did its thing. No hardware problems or anything, but our entire system was wiped out.

We had to re-install everything on the computer, all the basic software, we basically started it completely from scratch. The computer is working fine now, running fast, we have better anti-virus software.

But everything that was on the computer before the crash is gone. Completely lost. I don't mind losing all the random documents and unused software. But my pictures... more that two years of pictures and videos have been totally wiped. Gone. Anything that I didn't post on the blog is lost. And there were a ton of pictures and videos that I didn't post on the blog.

It just makes me sick to my stomach when I think of the moments we captured, the kids' adorable antics, the trips we've taken and documented with pictures. The video Jeff took when I was in labor with Audrey, when the midwife said hi to the camera knowing that someday Audrey would watch that video. The sweet little videos Jeff took of Audrey in that first hour after her birth, as she started opening her eyes and mouthing her hands. Pictures of Zaylee and Thomas playing with Audrey.

They're all gone. It's devastating.

Oh my gosh, I am So sorry! Jon is a fanatic about backing up our computer and laptop to our portable hard drive every week and I am so glad he does. I can't imagine losing all those pictures! Thank goodness for the blog at least...

Oh sweetie.... this is something I completely understand. Most everything from William's first year is gone for the same reason. I want to cry for you!

Any pictures from the last couple years I have of the kids I'll send you. It won't replace what you've lost, but it will be something. Hugs!

I was goofing with my camera and discovered that I hadn't formated any of my SD cards since the day we delivered Daniel. So I have pics of your kids when we all got together, I think they were about 4 months? It's something. And anything I took at the wedding. I also recall having backed up the photos and such a few months ago, because I went through and sorted by month and year. I will go through those when I get home and burn you a disc. So glad we didn't get rid of the desktop!

I'm so sorry.

I'm a reader and lurker of your site and just wanted to let you know there may be a way to get your stuff off the hardrive still. My parents recently had a hard drive die--had to replace it. The local PC shop was unable to recover anything from the drive but they gave them the name and address of some "experts" to call. Well, the experts were able to recover everything. It was expensive, but it was years of photos my mom had of all the grandkids going back 3-4 years. Me and my sister donated some money to her cause and she was able to ship it off and get everything!

So - my first thought is maybe some local PC shop can help since it sounds like you guys did the fix yourself. Or can offer information on a "specialist" who could. This company my mom used sent her a postage paid package to ship the harddrive to them and looked at it and gave an estimate for free.
