Homemaking

I've been thinking a lot lately about getting my home in order. I know I complain a lot here that my dishes are always dirty, or the living room is a mess, toys all over the floor, stuff like that. I'd like that to change. I know that my home won't always be perfect, especially with young children around, but I would like it to be at least pleasant. Some of the messes (toys and books on the floor) are indeed caused by the kids, but they are easy to pick up and put away. Other messes are my fault, caused by the simple fact that I don't clean them on a regular basis. Clutter building up, crud on the dining room floor, dishes spilling out onto the counters (though I've been doing much better with the dishes lately) - these are the things that I need to work on, the things that I plan to work on.

I've added a link list on my sidebar featuring homemaking blogs - blogs written by women who are much better at this whole housekeeping and homemaking thing than I am! I hope to gain some insight, inspiration, motivation, and encouragement from these blogs, and I hope to be able to make my home beautiful and peaceful like I know it can and should be.

At least we know we are both bad at this. So it's cool that we are both working on it at the same time! Not everything here is spotlessly clean, but it has been nice to have a relaxing, pleasant atmosphere. The boys are actually behaving a little better, and I discovered they clean up willingly at night if we sing the song, "If we're helping we're happy" with a verse for each person. We try to get it picked up before the song ends!

Whatever works, right? :-)

Stephanie,
Thanks for your cute comment on my blog! It was fun to be saucy for the day. I couldn't help but notice your reference to BYU on your blog-- I am LDS too! Your family is SO cute.

I think we all can relate to this, and we all want to be better. Good luck at keeping it all up, but don't be too hard on yourself if you can't. It's a lot of work!

I hear you! Ever since my baby was born I have been a lazy housekeeper. I've been whipping myself and my home back into shape lately and things are feeling so much more peaceful. I've realized that attitude has a lot to do with it. A lot! Good luck. When I have a little more time I will have to check out some of the blogs you've linked.
I also wanted to let you know that I left a little something for you on my blog today. Check it out when you get a chance. :-)
