Date Night at the Hop!

On Friday night, our stake held a Fall Harvest dance for the adults. It was a fifties-themed Night at the Hop! We were encouraged to dress accordingly, so Jeff and I dug through our clothes and came up with cute, though not overstated, outfits that worked really well.

Jeff: Rolled-up jeans, white collar shirt, dark vest, sharp hairstyle!

Me: Capris, nylons, white socks, small penny loafer-like shoes; two cable sweaters, scarf around the neck, scarf around the hair, pearls, makeup!

At the dance, there were some neat-o motorcycles and classic cars set up for pictures, so we took some fun shots. Here's Jeff by the enormous 2-seater Harley Davidson, and the two of us sitting in the classic Pontiac convertible. It was su-weeet!

Jeff and I had such a fun time! This was so much better than youth stake dances - I had a guaranteed dance partner for every song that I wanted to dance to! And we took good advantage of that. I haven't danced that energetically in a long time - everyone was swinging and spinning and jumping around like it was really the fifties - we're talking everyone from young couples to older couples who were young in the fifties! It was so fun! There was even a live band there playing wonderful oldies tunes, everything from Elvis and the Beatles to other great hits, fifties and otherwise. They were really good, especially the vocalists - great singers!

There was a name-that-tune contest, featuring theme songs from oldies TV shows. We won first place - Jeff knew every song! I didn't know most of them. Perry Mason, Captain Kangaroo, Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons? I've never even seen any of those shows! :-) For snacks, there were cranberry white chocolate chunk cookies, root beer floats, and candy corn mixed with peanuts - delish!

Yeah, we had a great date night. And when we won the name-that-tune contest, we were awarded a gift certificate to Subway - so we have next week's date night planned as well: We'll get sandwiches at Subway then go on a picnic - Woo Hoo!

That sounded like tons of fun! I know I am in your stake but I swear that they are not that good about passing that info down in our ward or something. Or maybe I can't hear on account of my kids. We should get together with the kids at a park or something!Oh and congrats to your dad on winning nationals!

Dude, our stake is so boring! You look super cute though. Great job Jeff, knowing all those tunes. :-)

Now I want to go on a date! I got some time without the kids, he just wasn't there... :-(

That sounds so fun! I'm glad you were able to get out just the 2 of you!
