Let's Do Some Laundry

We went to Mom's house and did our laundry today. We were finally able to put all that Vaseline-smeared clothing in the wash. There are still grease stains on all of them, but we can scrub it out with dish soap over time, I suppose. Or just live with it.

I wonder if my parents finally fixed their dryer. All the clothes went through only one load each, and they all got dry! I was amazed, and very pleased. Especially since we did the goopy clothes separately, which added a load to the three loads we usually do. If the dryer were as slow as usual, it would have taken such a long time to get all the clothes done. As it was, it took hardly any time at all!

Zaylee really enjoyed herself today. Janelle painted her fingernails and toenails. Zaylee, being a true girly girl, loved it! They used a variety of colors to make it look like a rainbow.

After we got all the laundry done (and by "done" I mean washed and dried, but definitely not yet put away! No, that usually takes us several days...) we brought it all home, and then I took off to the store. By myself. Boy, did that feel weird! It will take some getting used to, but I think I will definitely grow to enjoy that time to myself, without any kids to keep happy and occupied and out of the groceries.

Jeff didn't fare quite so well. Zaylee had fallen asleep on the way home and slept the whole time I was gone. But Thomas, according to Jeff, cried the whole time. I think I was gone for about an hour, so I imagine it was really hard on Jeff. He didn't really want grocery shopping to switch from "family outing" to "solo errand." He really likes to shop with me, and to have that time together. It's just that it's gotten too difficult with the kids. One of us has to stay home, and I'm the only one who can use the WIC checks. So he felt left out today. I'll have to come up with some way to make it up to him.

Speaking of Jeff, his finals are next week. After finals, he's completely done with all his classes. He didn't tell me this until after the fact, but last Saturday they held the graduation ceremonies. He could have walked and gotten his "diploma" (the real one won't be sent until sometime this fall), but he didn't feel like it, so he never even mentioned it. I do wish he'd have told me about the graduation though - I could have convinced him that, yes, he really did want to walk, and I could have taken pictures of it to post on the blog! But oh well. I'm not upset at him, just humorously irked.

After finals, Jeff gets to start his Clinical Rotations. I'm trying to remember how he explained it, so I know how I can explain it: He will spend about 8 hours a day for 12 weeks (or was it 8 weeks? I'll have to ask him later, but I think it's 12) in a hospital lab, learning hands-on how to do all the things he needs to know how to do in order to be a Clinical Lab Scientist. As he's able to do each thing, he'll pass it off with a supervisor. Some things he just has to practice with the supervisor there. Some things he has to be able to do fully supervised. And some things he needs to be able to do without any supervision.

We're hoping that he'll be able to spend most of his rotations at the hospital here in town. We live really close to it, and he would be able to ride his bike every day. He could get some exercise, we'd save on gas big-time, and I could have the car available to me if I should need it.

You know, I love your hubby, he's awesome... but he'll live! You said it, you can use the WIC checks and he can't. Think of this as your well-deserved break every week. He gets to be at school and work, without children, doing grownup stuff. You don't. You need that regular time. Mark and I were the same way, until our kids got crazy. Now I wouldn't trade my grocery time for anything. Sometimes I drag the family becuase I want some time with Mark, but I also appreciate going on my own. Plus, we spend more when he goes. :-) I'm sure that if Thomas had been all cheerful and happy it wouldn't have been a big deal. Just tell him you love him and that's why you go alone. To maintain your sanity. It is hard though to go from the couple/family that always goes everywhere together, to the couple that respects each other's alone time. (So worth it though)

Sorry, forgot a comment! That's hilarious, in a shake-your-head kind of way, that he didn't tell you about graduation. Mark did that with a big award ceremony. His whole shop was receiving a medal for being the best sheet metal shop in the Air Force or something. He didn't think I wanted to go, since the guys all end up "slightly" drunk and yell a lot. Are you kidding! I missed the chiefs making a steak dinner, and taking pictures, and clapping for my sweetie! I missed an evening away from the kids! ARGH! I had to chuckle though, when he walked in with this medal like it was no big deal....

It's great that Jeff is so close to finishing his classes! Hooray! And I totally agree with Michelle on needing time out away from the kids. I don't usually get it for doing the grocery shopping, but I actually avoid taking Steve shopping because (like Michelle and Mark) we spend a lot more if he goes! And that's kind of okay because I get me-time during my Bible study group, and sometimes during Sunday School. It will have to do for now :)

I had to laugh about the grocery shopping solo spree. We, too, have always gone, more often than not, as a family. Now, whenever I go alone, it almost feels funny, like something is missing. However, once I do go alone and get going, I realize how much I LIKE it!!!!!! I can actually concentrate and look at things!!!! :)) And Thomas won't always be fussy so that is comforting to know as well. :))

That is so wonderful for Jeff that he is finishing his classes!!!! It sounds like he is nearing the end of the tunnel!!!!!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and one last comment, I just LOVE Zaylee's painted nails!!!! How cute!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I love Zaylee's nails. Emma loves having hers painted too but likes to touch it too soon after. Girls really are so fun.
How exciting to be almost done with school. So you guys will be done this summer? Are you staying in the Boise area? Congratulations!!!
Just a side note on the shopping thing...you can add Jeff to be able to use the WIC checks. You both just have to go into the office together so he can sign the packet. But maybe he doesn't need to know that...although it might be nice for times that you can't get out to the store and he can.
