Women's Conference

We had a great women's conference this morning. The theme was to bloom where you're planted and grow toward the light, like a sunflower. We had several great speakers, sisters who were "planted in various soils": there was a sister who has not had the opportunity to marry, a sister struggling with infertility, a sister who had gone through divorce. There was a sister who struggled with insecurities and was intimidated by Relief Society for 33 years, before being called to the RS presidency. And the Temple matron, who's son and daughter-in-law had a child born with a fatal congenital heart defect and lived only three weeks. All of them talked about the problems they had gone through, and how they were learning to be their best selves, even though the soil they were planted in (their various situations) was not what they had expected out of their lives. There was a great quote by one of the ladies, something to this effect: "Don't try to find out who you are, create who you are." Or something like that. I can't really remember how it went. But anyway, it illustrated that you should spend your energy becoming the best you that you can. It was great to be able to listen to the speakers, and be with other women, and at the lunch afterward I sat with several ladies from my ward and we chatted. It was a really nice morning.

Our Women's Conference was pretty recent and I really enjoyed it. Awesome that you got to go. And I am twice blessed because Aaron's mom, who is the stake R.S. pres. for the south stake (I'm in the north stake) asked me to help out at hers, which is just before Lizzie will be born. I can't wait!!
