Doing Better

By the time Jeff got home yesterday afternoon, Zaylee was doing much better. She was still not quite herself, but wasn't throwing up anymore either. She mostly ate crackers and water yesterday, I didn't want to feed her anything really substantial that could upset her stomach. She had some bread pudding after dinner, though, and was able to keep it down well. She's doing well this morning, feeling better, eating better, and much more cheerful and active. It's nice to see her back to her old self again. And I was excited when I took her diaper off for potty time this morning because her diaper was dry. This is the second time she's slept dry all night, though this time was probably because she just didn't get much to eat or drink yesterday. Still, it's neat.

Thomas still has that diarrhea and diaper rash. We recently moved him up to the next size diaper, but I'm kind of regretting doing it when we did. (I'm not having him wear the cloth diapers during this diarrhea thing - yuck!) He's not wearing the diapers long enough for the size change to make a difference - he just keeps pooping so frequently! If we'd kept with the size 3s for just a while longer, it would have saved some money. Oh well, we couldn't have known.

I'm glad Zaylee is doing better. People are always telling me to use the BRAT diet (bread, rice, applesauce, and toast) when my kids have the runs. I don't find that it helps all that much, except that they are mild and so sometimes kids with upset tummies don't mind them. I hope poor Thomas is feeling better soon, that is no fun for either baby or mommy... And hurray for even coincidental dryness!

Thomas already lives on rice cereal, mushed bananas, and other fruits and juice, so I don't think the BRAT is working. I keep trying to go over in my mind if we've started him on something new that he may be reacting to, but haven't figured it out yet.

Well, you don't own a cat, so that's not it. William will have the runs for a few days after eating the kitty's food. Peanut butter wouldn't cause the runs, it would just make hives or difficulty breathing. I did have a friend whose child was allergic to lactose, wheat gluten, and tomatoes, all of which gave him the runs. Is he eating lots of cheese? It could just be the change in seasons, or the same bug that made Zaylee sick but manifesting differently. If it goes for another day I would just take him in to the doctor, to be safe, they dehydrate so quickly and anything over 48 hours in a baby under one should be looked at. Or maybe a blessing would help?

I started giving him graham crackers. I wonder if it's the wheat? I'll try no more crackers and see if that helps.
